On October 29, 2024,  a story quoting a Virginia Union University student voicing concerns about insufficient security on campus. Following that story, Virginia Union’s administration sent a notice to the student body warning that engaging “in speech that undermines the university or its values may lead to disciplinary action,” and that making statements that are “harmful or damaging to the university’s reputation” violate the university’s communications policy. ������ýapp�ٷ� wrote Virginia Union on November 14 reminding the university that because it promises free expression to students, it cannot punish them for publicly criticizing the university.
