On November 7, 2020, University of Miami School of Law Dean Anthony Varona suggested that he would not renew the contract of law school lecturer Daniel B. Ravicher due to his controversial tweets about the 2020 election. FIREwrote to the university on November 20, explaining that the university鈥檚 promises of academic freedom and free expression protect Ravicher鈥檚 right to engage in extramural expression of his political views, and calling for the university to disclaim any suggestion that Ravicher鈥檚 extramural speech might result in the nonrenewal of his contract. Varona鈥檚 December 5 response to FIREfailed to do so.
