Tyler Junior College: QR Code Policy threatens student newspaper’s reporting, recruitment
Cases
Tyler Junior College
Case Overview
In April 2024, Tyler Junior College enacted a new QR code policy restricting their use. The policy requires student organizations to receive approval to use QR codes and bans QR codes linking to non-college websites. FIREwrote TJC on January 24, 2025, demanding the college repeal the policy, as it violates the First Amendment by excessively burdening student groups’ speech.
