On January 11, 2023, the College Dissident published Tulane University student Sarah Ma鈥檚 op-ed arguing that Kanye West, who legally changed his name to Ye in 2021, was right to wear a jacket reading 鈥淲hite Lives Matter鈥 and had reason to say he was going to go 鈥渄eath con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.鈥 The next day, Tulane announced that its Office of Student Conduct was reviewing the matter. On January 16, FIREwrote Tulane urging it to drop its investigation because Ma鈥檚 comments, however offensive to some, are protected by the university鈥檚 commitment to 鈥渁n environment in which a variety of ideas can be freely expressed and critically examined.鈥 On January 18, Tulane responded with the excuse that it investigates all reports to the Office of Student Conduct, but it did not follow through with an official investigation.
