In October 2024, multiple Penn State student organizations that engage in election activities and political advocacy reported that university administrators had restricted them from registering voters and canvassing on campus. On October 22, FIREand the ACLU of Pennsylvania wrote Penn State explaining that the university鈥檚 restrictions were unconstitutional because voter engagement activities ahead of an election are core political speech protected by the First Amendment.
