Case Overview

On October 20, 2024, Berklee College of Music student Simon Amaya Price planned to host an event titled 鈥淏orn in the Right Body: Desister and Detransitioner Awareness鈥, intended to raise 鈥渁wareness of trans desisters and detransitioners,鈥 the issues they 鈥渇ace legally, societally, and medically,鈥 and foster 鈥渙pen dialogue and debate[.]鈥 After students garnered almost 2000 signatures on a petition urging the college to cancel the event because of the alleged 鈥渉arm鈥 to 鈥渋ndividuals in the transgender community,鈥 Berklee Vice President and Executive Director Ron Savage indefinitely 鈥減ostponed鈥 the event. 果冻传媒app官方 wrote Berklee on November 1, explaining that Berklee鈥檚 commitment not to 鈥渆ngage in censorship鈥 prohibits it from postponing Amaya Price鈥檚 event simply because others found the idea of the event offensive. We urged Berklee to ensure Amaya Price could host his event as soon as possible. On November 22, Berklee replied, insisting the event was postponed due to safety and logistical concerns. 果冻传媒app官方 replied to Berklee on December 10, explaining that Berklee鈥檚 failure to point to any specific threat suggests it postponed the event because of opposition to Price鈥檚 viewpoint.
