Allison Hayward

Allison Hayward most recently served as the Head of Case Selection for the Facebook Oversight Board. Previously she was a Commissioner on the California Fair Political Practices Commission and Co-Chair of the Board of the Office of Congressional Ethics.  She was also Vice President of Policy at the Center for Competitive Politics (now the Institute for Free Speech). 

She held the position of Assistant Professor of Law at George Mason University School of Law from 2006 to 2010, where she taught constitutional law, election law, ethics, and civil procedure. Prior to that, Hayward was Counsel to Commissioner Bradley A. Smith of the Federal Election Commission. She was an associate at Wiley, Rein & Fielding in Washington, D.C. and Of Counsel at Bell, McAndrews & Hiltachk in Sacramento, California. 

Hayward has written widely on election law and ethics topics and has been published in a variety of law journals and magazines.  Before attending law school, she served as staff in the California legislature and managed a state assembly campaign. 

Hayward graduated from Stanford University in 1985 with degrees in political science and economics, and received her law degree from the University of California, Davis in 1994. She clerked for Judge Danny J. Boggs of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She has served as the Chair of the Federal Society鈥檚 Free Speech and Election Law Practice Group. 

Hayward is a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Election Law and the American Law Institute.  She is an active member of the California bar.
