Abby Varricchio
Abby Varricchio graduated summa cum laude from the College of William & Mary, where she earned her B.A. in government and history and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. During her time at the college, Abby was a McGlennon Scholar. In this role, she researched student attitudes toward freedom of expression and cross-partisan dialogue. Abby also worked as a teaching assistant for an introductory political theory course.
Abby鈥檚 eighth grade civics teacher sparked her passion for cultivating a culture of freedom of expression. When she arrived at William & Mary and noticed a lack of knowledge among students about the First Amendment on campus, she realized she needed to act on her passion. As the first student representative on William & Mary鈥檚 Democracy Initiative, Abby spoke to the class of 2026 on a panel titled 鈥淓ngaging Across Differences鈥 about the importance of seeking to understand differences and worked to cultivate a culture of free expression across the university.
Abby is thrilled to advocate for a culture of free expression as a development associate at FIREafter interning here during summer 2022.
Outside of work, you鈥檒l find Abby exploring coffee shops, reading, or trying to curate the perfect Spotify playlist.
