FIRELetters to Michigan Municipalities, February 6, 2025
On Feb. 6, 2025, FIREwrote to 20 Michigan cities about unconstitutional provisions in their public comment policies. The letters reminded each governing body that they lack authority to restrict the content of commenters’ speech unless those restrictions are viewpoint-neutral and reasonable. As each city maintains some provision that infringes its citizens’ First Amendment rights, FIREcalled on the cities to revise their policies.
