Victory for Freedom of Speech at Northern Arizona University: Charges Dropped for FIREPassing Out American Flags for 9/11

Northern Arizona University (NAU) has dropped disciplinary charges against two students who were distributing small American flags in the student union to commemorate the September 11 terrorist attacks. After no fewer than four administrators told the students that NAU policy prohibited their expression without a permit, the students came to FIREfor help. While charges have been dropped, NAU's campus has been wracked with controversy over the incident, and the university president has called for an open discussion on the issue to coincide with tomorrow's observance of Constitution Day.
